Atomlab Review

Atomlab was founded in 1996 by Mike Flaherty, an ex semi-pro BMX rider from Northern Virginia. A graphic designer by trade, Mike worked for various companies in the San Diego area after finishing college there, before taking the plunge and starting Atomlab. It was a risk, Mike had no capital, no backers or financiers, just an absolute commitment to turning his dream into a reality. Today Atomlab is a very successful mountain and BMX bike frame and accessories manufacturer who have a significant market presence throughout the world.Their marketing efforts are helped by their sponsoring or their own team in conjunction with Corsair. This brings them a lot of attention as well as the opportunity to showcase some of their products. The product line is a wide one split into two distinct ranges, MTB and BMX. On the BMX side the emphasis is on lightweight strength, while the MTB products have a definite downhill and jumping bias. The naming convention of all the products in Atomlabs lineup illustrates a definite youth appeal, with names like Pimp and Pimplite. These are designed to appeal to those who use the word to describe modifying or improving their bikes.Atomlab seems to be one of those companies who strive to improve on designs rather than innovate. This allows their product range to evolve as new techniques are learned and developed. The ability to produce strong, yet light equipment will see them survive for a long time yet.
