American Classic Review

 American Classic was founded by Bill Shook in Tampa, Florida. Bill received his master’s in mechanical engineering from Ohio State following a very successful career racing bikes both cross country and on the track. The American Classic story begins in the early seventies when Bill was unable to find quality high performance components in the United States for his road and track bikes. This spurred him on to search out technologically advanced component designs that are lighter. His first components were an adjustable and lightweight seat post and a lightweight cage for a water bottle.

Today American Classic produces wheels, hubs, clothing and other components such as spokes and nipples. All components are designed, manufactured and assembled in-house before passing a stringent quality control inspection. Each new component or wheel design is based on in-house test data as well as rider input before the final designs are implemented. Wheels are given special attention to assure trueness and durability for an extended life.

Many riders agree that the new seat post design with a single bolt for clamping and adjusting is both simple and quite easy to use. The design has also been praised because it offers micro adjusting of the saddle for complete comfort that allows some riders to forgo shimming their shoes.

The biking community agrees that American Classic’s Mountain Wheelset is not only durable but also “sweet looking.� Many mountain bikers have noted that the wheels hold up very well in extreme conditions. It has also been noted that American Classic logos and tire designs look cool without detracting from the bike in any way. Industry experts agree that the MTB 350s are a fantastic upgrade for any cross-country racing or trail bike.

American Classic’s clothing line is the product of the Italian company Capo. The jerseys and shorts are made with a fabric that dissipates heat. Each piece has a silicone gel gripper at the waist. The shorts also offer padding where it is needed most and silicone leg grippers to hold the garment in place. Many riders wear Capo for its comfort as well as its wicking properties.

Pricing

American Classic Wheels and components are considered to be mid to high end products. The wheels will range in price from $312 US to over $800 US and the hubs range from $100 US to $300 US.
