GT BMX Bikes Review

Gary Turner and Richard Long founded GT Bicycles which later created GT BMX Bikes. GT stands for Gary Turner. Turner became interested in BMX racing in the 1970s when his sons competed in the sport. With the abuse common in BMX, the BMX Bikes being sold on the market were unable to hold up to the wear and tear on a daily basis. With fragile frames and instability, Gary Turner being a welder by trade, decided to create a stronger frame for his sons.

GT BMX Bikes were one of the first brands to use frame material modification to create a superior end product. While welding in the drag racing business, Gary Turner became familiar with chromoly – a far superior material than what was being used to make other BMX bikes. By 1974, Richard Long noticed the Turner boy’s rides and asked to be a retailer for GT BMX Bikes. By 1998, the frames were so popular, bike manufacturer Schwinn bought out GT BMX Bikes and marketed the frames on a larger scale.

By 2001, the company folded and Pacific Cycle picked up the GT BMX Bikes name. Later acquisitions included Dorel Industries, Dyno Products and Robinson Racing. Despite having moved from one company to another, GT BMX Bikes remain a popular choice in BMX racing.

In 2010, GT BMX Bikes offer frame solutions for dirt, vert, flatland and street BMX. The new GT BMX Bikes are more affordable than ever before which means recreational and child BMXers are able to purchase a higher end bike for far less money. Unlike racing bikes, GT BMX Bikes tend to be bold and colorful. Two of the newest designs, the Fly and Fueler, are created with images of the United States flag and Jamaican flag respectively. Road bikes are also available for children and adults of all ages.
