Globe Fixed Gear ReviewSpecialized Bicycle Components launched the Globe bicycle brand in 2010. Being new in the world of cycling can be hard, but its looks as though Globe has a brand that will sell with ease. The entire line of cycles, including the Globe Fixed Gear models, are aimed at the urban cyclist who wants to give up four wheels for two in order to save mother earth. With that idea behind them, Specialized chose simple lines and design names like Haul and Roll to keep things interesting. Globe Bikes started 2010 with several life based models. There are no BMX, racing or trick bikes offered as part of the line. Instead, the Globe Bikes are created for everyday use. Most models employ a basic cruiser design with add-ons to increase functionality. The Globe haul, for instance, comes with a large back mounted rack to “haul” packages. Of all the Globe cycles released this year, there are only two Globe Fixed Gear models. Both models are very simply designed with straight handlebars. While the two models may look exactly alike, there are a few subtle changes between the Roll 1 and Roll 2. The Roll 1, for instance, offers road pedals and a unicrown fork. The Roll 2, however, offers track pedals and a custom lugged fork. The two models also offer different cranksets, rims, front hubs, rear hubs and seatposts. Another interesting feature of the Globe Fixed Gear bikes are the various colors complete builds can be purchased in. The Roll 1 is offered in standard black, kiwi green and lassen grey. The Roll 2 is offered in fjord blue and humbolt green. According to Globe Bikes, the purpose behind the brand is to integrate seamlessly into the daily lives of the cycle owners. Whether trekking to and from work or out on an evening ride, the Globe Fixed Gear models are perfect for any life situation. ModelsPricingAll Globe Fixed Gear bikes retail for less than $1000 US.
