Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes created its first model in 1983. The model was not an immediate success and neither was the company. Despite the fact that Gary Fisher started cycling at the age of 12, early troubles with popularity and design features paved a rough road for Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes.

Fisher did not start out creating his own designs. The first model he created was the Schwinn Excelsior X. To this day, that model Schwinn is one of the most renowned. By 1983, Fisher wanted to design his own Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes and never looked back. While the beginning was rocky, after 10 years the models were so popular, Trek Mountain Bikes chose to buy out the company.

Early on, Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes ventured far beyond popular technologies of the day. Thumb shifters, long crank arms and triple chains were not commonly used when Gary Fisher started producing his models with these refineries. The push toward technological advancements has been noticed by mountain biking enthusiasts as Gary Fisher has been honored with a place in the Mountain Biking Hall of Fame and honored as the founding father of mountain biking by the Smithsonian Magazine.

In 2000, the first ’29er Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes were released. The models featured big wheels and did not immediately gain popularity in the cycling community. However, in 2010, just 10 years after the first model was released a new ‘29er is hitting the market. This version falls more into the line of mountain bikes popular today. All new ‘29er models sit 29” high aside from one.Popular searched parts include Shimano derailleur, Shimano crankset, Bontrager seatpost, and Bontrager handlebars.

Also available in 2010 are new women’s models of Gary Fisher Mountain Bikes. These models include hard tail and full suspension for extreme biking conditions. New models with lighter frames and carbon fiber technology continue to be designed each year.
