BMX Pedals Review

BMX pedals are, as the name implies, the pedals that come standard on a BMX, or bicycle motocross, bike. BMX bikes are specifically designed to withstand race-like and dirt terrains. Pedals on BMX bikes perform the same function they do on other bikes. With push from the rider, the pedals propel the bicycle forward. There are a variety of different types of bike pedals, but BMX bike pedals are most commonly of the platform variety. You will find bmx platform pedals when browsing Shimano pedals and Wellgo pedals

Platform pedals are generally made with a large area for the rider’s feet to rest on. BMX platform pedals typically refer to flat pedals without a cage, an example being Sunlite pedals. Platform pedals allow the rider more grip as they have short medal studs. The pedals are said to be rounder and in turn they do less damage to the shins of a rider and ankles if an accident was to occur. Cage pedals have been noted to often scrape skin and flesh. This can occur if the rider stops too quickly and loses control and footing of the pedal. The metal studs provide grip and friction which ultimately allow for more control for the bike rider. Black Ops pedals and Odyssey pedals deliver BMX specific functionality to allow riders for maximum control and safety.

BMX bike pedals come in an array of prices and types. These pedals are also made from a variety of materials. Many manufacturers make pedals out of plastic. These plastic pedals are often used on model and test bikes as well as on more expensive downhill models. Many models may also be made out of steel or aluminum. Some pedals also include reflectors which are an added safety bonus as it allows for safer riding during the night. The cheaper side of platform pedals are often disposable. It is hard to rebuild cheap ones once they wear out. On the other hand, expensive pedals are generally equipped with the ability to have metal traction pins and bearings replaced. Toe clips – which are brackets that sit on the front of the pedals that keep your feet in position – are usually not on BMX pedals. Many BMX riders think that toe clips are unsafe.
