Bike Wheels Review

In its most basic form, bicycle wheels are simply circular rotating forms that allow the movement of the bicycle. The wheels, like Sinz wheels, are the complete metal forms that the tires are attached to. Examples of bike wheels include Mavic wheels and Hutchinson wheels. Without the bike tires, tubes, and wheels, it would be almost impossible to go any sort of distance on the bike. Because of this, they are one of the most fundamental and necessary elements in bicycle design, development, and function. You may want to choose a popular brand such as Campagnolo wheels or FSA wheels to ensure safety and durability.

It is important to know the type of wheel your bike will need. Wheelsmith wheels, for example, are tubular which are usually seen on high-performance bikes. A cruiser bike will use regular road tires. Mountain bikes and BMX bikes need shock-absorbing tires to keep up with use. SRAM wheels offer a great variety in wheel types. If you ride with little ones, you may want to purchase training wheels, such as Wald wheels.

Many items go into the functionality of the modern bicycle wheel. Simply put, the wheel is made up of three primary components: metal hubs, rims and spokes which holds the bicycle tire. Brands like Challenge wheels and Chris King wheels make these components easily adaptable. The hub is the small apparatus in the center that basically holds the wheel together. Hubs also contain hub shells, bearings, and axels. The hub shells sit on the outside of the hub and allow the spokes to connect to the rim. On each side there are two projections from the hub shells, known as flanges, which have numerous holes in which the spokes are fastened. The axle is the central mechanism that allows for the rotation of the wheel and in turn the bicycle. Bike bearings are generally the fasteners that fasten the axle to together. It is important to note that many braking systems of bikes are often located amongst the bike hubs and skewers. Formula wheels and Industry Nine wheels are known for their accessibility to these components.

Spokes are the thin metal rods that are connected to both the hub shells and the rim of the wheel. In terms of bicycle wheels, tension spokes are ones that are most commonly found.  Each spoke has a nipple – a sort of specialized nut which can come in a variety of metals – that is used to alter and change the tension within the spoke. Nipples can be on either end of the spoke and can sometimes influence the moment of inertia. Rims on the bicycle wheel hold the tires. It is the rim that is usually adjusted in order to cater to the different types of wheels needed for an array of bicycle types – such as those for racing bikes or BMX bikes. Alex wheels and Atomlab wheels are popular amongst BMX riders.

Bicycle wheels are primarily made out of stainless steel, titanium, aluminum, and carbon fiber in addition to other various materials. Other attractive brands are American Classic wheels and Cane Creek wheels Many of these materials can be used interchangeably. In many parts of the wheel, most manufacturers use stainless steel more often than the less-durable aluminum. Freedom wheels and G sport wheels carry stainless steel varieties.

Models

Fulcrum wheels, Hed wheels and Kenda wheels are prominent bike wheels models. The Michelin wheel and Pace wheels are also very popular. Some other noted brands include Shimano wheels, Sun Ringle wheels, and Powertap wheels.

Pricing

The pricing of bike wheels range from about $70 USD to around $3600. While size of the wheel determines much of the price, the quality of the materials – such as the sorts of metals or specific adjustments – could also add to the overall price.
