Bicycle lubricant, often referred to simply as “lube”, is an oil or grease-like substance that’ is designed to reduce friction and wear and tear on the bike’s chain and derailleur. Some riders make the mistake of using common household lubricants in place of a lube made specifically for bikes. Lubing bike chains is a fairly straightforward process. Simply apply a drop of any lubricant, such as White Lightning lube, on every roller, or link, on the bicycle chain. When you finish one section, pedal backwards and do another section. Repeat this process until you finish the entire chain. When you are finished, use a clean, dry cloth to gently wipe off any excess oil. You may want to consider buying a chain cleaning kit. They are simple to use and often include both bike lubrication and cleaning tool for the chain that uses a brush to clean out the a dirt and grease that often collects in the chain.
