Bike Lubricants ReviewBicycle lubricant, often referred to simply as “lube”, is an oil or grease-like substance that’ is designed to reduce friction and wear and tear on the bike’s chain and derailleur. The chain on your bike is one of the most important parts. It helps to rotate the wheels and, when well-oiled, can insure a smooth bike ride and easy shifting . Some riders make the mistake of using common household lubricants in place of a lube made specifically for bikes. WD-40, although good for a variety of household jobs, is not designed to be used on a bicycle chain and can actually contribute to dirt build-up. Some bike lubricants, like Pro Gold lube or Tri Flow lube, contain silicon or Teflon to enhance your bike repair and maintanence. They are designed to keep water and mud off of your chain. There are essentially two main types of lubricants: dry and wet. A dry lubricant is designed to work in a dry and dusty environment while a wet lubricant is best in muddier conditions. Finish Line lube is a preferred brand of lubricant. When choosing a lubricant for your bike, you need to decide which type you should use. If you have a mountain bike, then you should consider using a wet lube, since you will most likely be riding in wet and muddy conditions. Likewise, if you plan to ride you bike primarily on the road, then consider using a dry lubricant to protect your bike .the selection of lubricants at your local bike shop can seem daunting at first, especially when you don’t know what to look for. Some lubricants are made for specific parts of the bike, such as the suspension forks. If you’re not sure which type to buy, ask one of the salesmen, who will be happy to help you out. You can choose a popular brand, such as Dumonde-Tech lube which will carry many solutions. Lubing bike chains is a fairly straightforward process. Simply apply a drop of any lubricant, such as White Lightning lube, on every roller, or link, on the bicycle chain. When you finish one section, pedal backwards and do another section. Repeat this process until you finish the entire chain. When you are finished, use a clean, dry cloth to gently wipe off any excess oil. You may want to consider buying a chain cleaning kit. They are simple to use and often include both bike lubrication and cleaning tool for the chain that uses a brush to clean out the a dirt and grease that often collects in the chain.
ModelsThe most popular brands of bike lubes are T9 lube, Motul Chain DH Lube, Pedro’s Ice Wax Chain Lube, ProLink Chain Lube, and Rock’n’Roll Extreme PTFE Chain Lube.
