Bike Cables Review

The term bike cables refers to the wires that transmit energy from one area of the bike to another.  Cables used when one operates a shifter or brake lever, transfer energy to the derailleur or brakes. For example, brake cables could transfer the energy from the handlebar brakes to the mechanisms that actually stop the tires. Cables are a standard part of every bike as they monitor the energy required in motion and the stopping of the bike itself. Shimano cable is a durable long-lasting brake cable.

Bicycle cables are basically made out of two parts. The first part is an inner wire. This inner wire is generally composed of various twisted strands of steel. The other aspect of cables is known as housing, which is a type of casing or covering. Like the inner wire, outer housing is also made out of steel. The housing typically implements a tightly wound spring that is then coated in plastic, which is what is visible on the bike itself. Flexible steel is required in the construction of both the inner wire and outer housing. It is important to note that the inner wire runs down the middle of the housing, therefore meaning that both parts are of equal importance. Neither part can work without the other.

There are generally two different kinds of cables that one finds on the modern bicycle: the brake cable and the derailleur cable. As its name implies, the bike brake cable is the set of wires that eventually stops the motion of the tires. The term derailleur is, in essence, a gear changer. The derailleur is a sort of device used for changing gears on a bicycle that lifts the chain from sprocket wheel to another. Therefore, a derailleur cable is simply the cable that is connected to the derailleur, assisting in changing gears. Gore cables and Jagwire cable are two of the most reputable products you may want consider when purchasing brake cable wire.

Bike cables and housing are, in their most basic form, a type of mechanical control. It is important to take note of any weakening of the brakes and cables, as well as any other bike Drivetrain Components associated with them, as they could potentially be quite dangerous. Cables should be checked regularly and there are a variety of sources on the web and in various other locations explaining how one can update, adjust, and fix any potential cable problems. Campagnolo cables and Nokon cables are popular brands when looking to replace your bike cable.

Pricing

The pricing of bike cables ranges the gamut from as low as $1USD to sometimes even more than $100 USD.
