About FSA Headsets

A bicycle headset is a collection of small components that serves as the joint between the bicycle frame and the steering mechanism. The headset also provides a rotatable juncture between the fork and the frame. The short tube through which fork’s steerer passes is called the head tube. Typical headsets consist of two cups sandwiching the headtube. Inside these cups are bearings to lessen friction between the cup and the steerer. Bike parts such as FSA Stems join the FSA Handblebars to the head tube via headsets.
 
FSA Steering Components has in its product line various headset models that according to users are all top-quality. One such model is the FSA Orbit-IS Ceramic headset. Reviews praise the use of ceramic balls as bearings inside this model. It has been found out that ceramic balls are stronger, lighter and more durable than most metal/alloy bearings. It has a carbon-fiber top cap and crown race is 7075/T6 aluminum. Most importantly, this model has 1-1/8” integrated head tubes, which allows it to fit almost all frames in the market. Total stack height is 17mm and weight is 51 grams.
 
For conventional headsets (metal bearings), there’s the FSA Orbit MX. The cups are made of forged and CNC-machined 6061 T6 alloy cups. Its total stack height is 32.1mm and weighs 96 grams. Like its Orbit-IS cousin, it has 1-1/8”, 36°/36° ACB, which makes it ideal for any carbon fiber frame.
