Continental, sources say, is one of the largest manufacturers in this industry. The company was established originally as a joint-stock company. Initially the company manufactured bicycle and carriage tires and it was a rubber factory. In the year 1892, this company became the first German company to manufacture pneumatic tires for bicycles.
In the year 1904, the company started manufacturing automobile tires with patterned tread. This was the first time that a patterned tread was introduced in automobile tires. Other innovations from the company included antiskid tires, cycling tires, detachable rims and spokes, bike tubes and synthetic rubber tires. Sources say that in the 1930s tires are made by Continental helped several racers to gain popularity and frame.
During this time, due to the war, several the factories were destroyed or heavily damaged and production was low. However, after the war it soon recovered its image and its popularity the building new factories and plants. In the late 1970s and 1980s, Continental acquired many subsidiaries as its business partners and continued to expand across the globe. Sources say that this company is one of the top five automotive suppliers in the world.
According to sources, Continental now has over 2000 retailers and 18 franchises in European countries. Tires are only a part of the products that are manufactured by Continental and yet they offer a wide variety and most other tires are highly praised by the customers for their performance.
