About Tubeless Tires

Tubeless tires are bicycle tires that do not need a separate butyl rubber inner tube to be inflated, which tubular tires have. Many bikes nowadays go for tubeless tires, according to pros. This is because wheels with tubeless tires are considered safer, has less risks of installation problems, and damage are easier to repair. Because there is no tube inside that is in constant risk of bursting, tubeless tires also are less accident-prone.

In order for a tubeless tire assembly to work correctly, the rim and tire must have an airtight seal between them so air cannot escape, which would deflate the tire. A special rubber material is used to lock in the air, such as rubber seal. Liquid sealants are added to further strengthen the seal bond.

The tubeless tires of many wheelsets are typically made of butyl rubber, a type of rubber compound which is flexible enough to allow the tire to bend but not break under severe road conditions. At the same time, this rubber is tough enough to be impermeable to keep air from escaping. When something punctures a tubeless tire, the tire does not burst; rather, the air escapes slowly, thus making the tubeless tire safer to use because it eliminates the dangers of exploding and flat tires.

Tubeless tires can be repaired and maintained using a special tire patch kit, which gives the tubeless tire another advantage in terms of cost. Unlike tubular tires or clincher tires, which may need complete replacement when punctured, tubular tires need only to be repaired.
