Road handlebars are bike handlebars specifically designed for road bicycles or road bikes. This type of bike rarely comes with a heavy-duty frame or design since it’s meant to be used in the city or any area with smooth and paved roads. Although some people consider road bikes as synonymous with race bikes, it would be more technically correct to consider race bikes as a type of road bike. As such, BMX handlebars are not one of the same with road handlebars. BMX bikes are more often than not used for racing, which not all road bikes are capable of.
 
If you’re not sure that road handlebars are ideal for your bike, then you need to correctly identify the bike type you’re using. Road bikes typically have high-pressure tires with narrow bodies that are capable of reducing rolling resistance. More often than not, road bikes have more than one derailleur gear as well although there are certain models which use fixed gears. If the latter’s the case, then it would be more apt if you invest instead in fixed gear handlebars. Last but not the least, compared to other types of bicycles, road bikes tend to be more lightweight in design.
 
There are many different kinds of road bikes today but road handlebars will typically fit them all. There are also utility bikes, which are designed for use for short city travel, hybrid bikes, and touring bikes. There are recumbent bikes as well, which is a special type of road bike as it allows the cyclist to bike in a more relaxed fashion with reclined seating.
