Bikes are made up of multiple parts that vary depending on the type of bikes or type of attachment. Pedals are considered to be one of the important bike parts. All bikes, regardless of the type, have pedals for them to work. Pedals are the connecting part of the biker’s foot to the bike. They are propelled by the biker and this is the start of the mechanical action of the bike empowered by the biker’s force.
There are different types of bicycle pedals depending on the type of attachment and on how these pedals will be used. One of the common types of pedal is the platform or flat pedal.
Platform pedals are used commonly used in mountain and BMX bikes. These pedals provide a wide flat area where foot can be rested and is really different from the narrow surface area of a quill pedal. Platform pedals have wide and flat top and bottom area with both toe clips and toe straps. They were designed to provide comfort when wearing shoes with rigid soles.
Bicycle riders, especially BMX and MTB riders, prefer an open platform pedal rather than cage pedals because they are rounder, provide better grip, and will injure the rider’s shin and ankles less in case of accidents.
Just like the platform pedals, you can also find some interesting bike stuff in this site. There are also kids bikes available and perhaps, you may want to have them for your children. Look around and you may see something that will feed your interest.
