If you’re a biking enthusiast, it probably won’t surprise you that SCOTT mountain bikes actually started life as an alpine skiing company. In 1958, the innovative skiing racer and engineer Ed Scott turned the industry upside down by switching his personally designed full aluminum ski polls with the standard bamboo and steel polls that were employed by many skiing professionals at the time. This attracted significant interested from the downhill skiing community. In terms of sporting entrepreneurs, it’s amazing how these things develop when the company owner has a genuine passion for the sporting field. In the case of SCOTT mountain bikes, the turning point came in 1970 when they expanded their line of skiing goggles to include Motocross goggles as well. Impeccably designed Motocross boots and gloves soon followed, establishing SCOTT as a premier purveyor of professional biking gear, in addition to skiing supplies. While they have always been well regarded within the alpine community, it wasn’t until 1989 that SCOTT mountain bikes finally officially entered the commercial biking market. In 1989, SCOTT mountain bikes revolutionized the entire industry by introducing the first commercial aero bar. The American biker Greg Lemond ultimately gave credit to the SCOTT aero bar for his thrilling Tour de France win. This heralded SCOTT’s official transition into the world of mountain bikes, and the company went on to manufacture innovative mountain bike suspension systems, while still developing cutting edge alpine skiing paraphernalia.

It wasn’t until the late 1990’s that SCOTT mountain bikes became a reality, and the company offered a complete package mountain bike. This was the SCOTT Endorphin, which the company claims was the first carbon mountain bike for sale by anyone. The Endorphin model would go on to success in the Olympics and the World Cup, making it an industry standard for professional mountain bikers everywhere. This set the trend for future SCOTT mountain bikes, and the manufacturer ultimately set the record for light mountain bikes in 2003 with their 895 gr, CR1 carbon-based frame.

Today, SCOTT mountain bikes are a trailblazing bike engineering company. Having distanced themselves from their alpine skiing origins, SCOTT mountain bikes are respected world-wide for their professionalism and innovation. SCOTT mountain bikes are enthusiastically endorsed by an international conglomeration of the world’s best riders, including Xavier Jordan, Timo Pritzel, Frischi and Hans and Saunier Duval. They are easily accessible to any interested biker via the company’s user-friendly website. Currently, SCOTT bikes offer an extensive selection of mountain bikes, road bikes, basic frames, bike wear, junior bikes and biking gloves.
